A step towards eliminating gender based discrimination

Article 6 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) stipulates that all children have the right to life, survival and development. Unfortunately, many children particularly girls are denied these rights. Gender based sex selection and elimination is widely practiced in India with alarming implications on the rate of missing girls. The dismal Child Sex Ratio of 918 females per 1000 males in India as revealed by Census 2011 shows gross violation of human rights. The alarming statistics of 861 females per 1000 males in Jaipur district, Rajasthan showed the deep seated patriarchal mindset that lead families to value sons over daughters, the need for small families, but with sons, and commercialisation and misuse of medical technology that enables illegal sex selection.

The project is being supported by Plan India since 2014 and the activities are being implemented in Jaipur district, Rajasthan.
