Child Marriage Abolition Campaign Launched in Jhunjhunu

A district level Launch workshop was organized on 23rd May 2006 at the district collectorate hall here in Jhunjhunu Rajasthan. The workshop was the formal launching of Child Marriage Abolition Project being implemented by two NGOs namely Shikshit Rojgar Kendra Prabandhak Samiti (SRKPS) and Samagra Vikas Sansthan (SVS). Both the organizations are implementing this project in the entire district having four block each. This one year project is being supported by Rajasthan State Women Commission and UNICEF Rajasthan. Smt. Tara Bhandari, Chairperson State Women Commission was present in the workshop where all the DLOs and BLOs were present. She said that really Child marriage is very big issue in this district and it can be abolished if all the stakeholders work in the right direction with uniform strategy. She further added that education to girls can solve the problem. These two NGOs have been given the responsibility to implement this noble project which the goal to have no Child Marriage in the district. Commission wants that this district must come out as a model district with no child marriage.
District Collector Shri Bhawani Singh Detha said that distrcit adminsitration faced lot of problem in taking sanction of this project from the commission and UNICEF. We are very hopeful from this project and district administration is always there to support these NGOs in effective implementation of the project. There should be some concrete data on the basis of which we can say that we have achieved something after a year of the project. Other dsitrict level officials also expressed there views on this project and all of them were agree to support the project. Project Director ICDS Shri D. S. Jhajharia said that Aangan wadi workers and Saathin can be taken together in order to see the grass root implementation of the project.
Both the NGOs presented that this project has so many activities including village level meeting in the most probable villages where this child marriage greater intensity. Programme Manager Mr. Brajesh Kumar Sinha said that a massive Rath Yatra would be oragnized in next two months which will have IEC on the issue. So many IEC materials were also launched in this workshop.
