Jhunjhunu - Sonography Centers in problem

Serious Concern-2

Jhunjhunu Raj, 5th April 2006...In the society there is a special consideration for boys as ‘Baba are more valuable than Baby’ a curse for us which is creating a havoc in the society. The day is not far when a woman will be married to five men. The incident of Mahabharata will be repeated again. These statements are indicating to adverse sex ratio in major states of India. Rajasthan is a state where the Child Sex Ratio is poor. Jhunjhunu is a district where the child sex ratio is depicting very worst situation. PCPNDT act is being violated in the district, due to which there is no such restriction on private sonography centers. Shikshit Rojgar Kendra Prabandhak Samiti, a non-profit organization is quite concerned with the adverse sex ratio. It is working on two pronged aspect of the issue one is community awareness & mobilization and other one strictly implementation of PCPNDT act. Organization has done many activities for awareness in last few years. Recently it had organised a District workshop on this issue in the chairmanship of District Collector. It observed a massive campaign on 25th and 26th March 2006 in Jhunjhunu and Churu.

SRKPS thought to do something commendable, which can really create example and reduce the rate of female foeticides. Organization got a success on 5th April when so many private sonography centers were put into trouble by a surprise inspection. This news tells the detail of the happening on 5th April 2006. Chief of SRKPS was putting pressure on CM & HO Jhunjhunu to call the meeting of PCPNDT monitoring committee. Due to such pressure a meeting was called on 5th but the timing of the meeting was shifted thrice. Finally all members of the committee gathered at CMHO office at 01:00 pm and chief SRKPS Mr. Rajan Choudhary and a staff were the observer of the proceedings. This meeting was the first meeting of the committee since 2001. Many decisions were taken like:
Ø All the registered sonography centers have to submit report on monthly basis otherwise action would be taken against them.
Ø All the 29 registered centers would be checked per month and if fault is found then registration will be cancelled.
Ø Now onwards this committee will sit regularly to monitor the whole activity under PCPNDT Act.
Ø There will be a meeting with owners of all 29 registered centers on 23rd April 2006 in the chairmanship of district collector.
After this meeting a surprise inspection was done in seven centers at district headquarters. Some centers were Shanti Diagnostic center, Rajasthani Diagnostic center, Choudhary Sonography center, Indu sonography center, Jeevan Jyoti Nursing Home, Choudhary Nidaan Kendra and one Sonography Center at Station Road without having name. One woman was found at Station road center waiting for the abortion of the female foetus after a confirmation from the center. That center was sealed at the same time. Two another centers were found operating without having registration under PCPNDT act. Those centers will be taken to legal proceedings. Shanti Diagnostic center was directed to close down because it was operating without permission. This operation got a good coverage in the media, which will give messages to the wrong doers.

SRKPS has a concern on the issue and it wants to any thing possible to stop the practice. Dear, readers kindly give us further good suggestions so that we could proceed in this fight.
